Marcel Deslauriers

Games, combinations and analyses

The book about Marcel Deslauriers is available! Highly recommended. It is 301 pages, 17x 24 cm, 640 gram and contains thirteen thorough analyses of the 10x10 games by Deslauriers. Also there are six short, strategic analysis, a big lot of shots that Deslauriers executed and the end games he composed. Furthermore there is a chapter about the unorthodox openings from the Canadian grandmaster and a big chapter about the Coup Deslauriers. Of course, the book is written in Dutch, but analyses and combinations are easy to follow for those who cannot read the Dutch language..

The book is available for 20 euro´s and shipping (3,84 for Holland, 9,45 for the rest of the world). You can order it by sending me an e-mail (info@lambertjan.nl) of you can just pay the requested amount on NL18RABO0312908539 (for L.J.A. Koops) while stating your name and address.

Examples

An example from the analyses section. In Deslauriers - Kuyken (WC 1972), black played 27... 18-23. Kuyken did not do 27... 19-23 28.28x19 14x23? Did he see the trap that Deslauriers made? How does white win after 27... 19-23 28.28x19 14x23? First, white plays 29.29-24 and now black is in big trouble. He cannot play 29... 18-22 because of 30.34-30 25x34 31.40x27. Also 29... 9-14 is not working, as white can win in two ways, although 30.24-19 13x24 31.34-29 23x34 32.40x9 4x13 33.15x4 works best. That leaves black only two options. 29... 21-26 and 29... 6-11. After 29... 21-26 white takes a shot with 30.47-42 36x47 31.32-28 23x41 32.24-19 13x24 33.42-37 41x32 34.38x27 47x29 35.34x05. Black has no other options though, as the same shot is executed after 3... 6-11.

An end game composition by Marcel Deslauriers, from the chapter 'The end games of Marcel Deslauriers'. This composition has been published before in the book 'Het Damspel' by G. Gagnon.
1.16-11 36-41
Black can play, 1… 37-41 2.11-6 41-46 3.38-32 but that will be the same.
2.11-6! 41-46
Because after 2… 41-47 whites wins when he lets black capture.
3.38-32! 37-41
After 3... 46-41 comes 4.28-22 37x17 5.6x46 and black has no pieces left.
4.48-42 41-47 5.42-38 47x22 6.6x28
The black King is helpless. At the next turn, whit will move his king to 5.
